Our sustainability efforts are guided by our Environmental Social Governance Strategy 2030. We are implementing innovative initiatives across our portfolio and our sites with the goal of making all our products inherently sustainable by 2030.
We are committed to developing products that use sustainable design principles covering the entire product lifecycle from design to development to production. As part of this commitment, we will introduce alternative materials into our product designs and processes.
We are constantly improving the manufacturing and material handling processes across our facilities. Our Liufu site in Taiwan, for example, already includes energy-efficient features and streamlined material handling processes that help reduce water usage, production waste, and CO2 emissions.
Our new Zug production and office building in Switzerland is being built with an integrated solar power system and energy-efficient features. Connected with the Tech Cluster Zug’s Multi Energy Hub, the building will support sustainable production processes. Globally, we will begin transitioning all sites and offices to renewable energy (RE100) by 2025.
SHL has invested heavily in high-cavity, hot runner molds using fully electric molding machines. This has resulted in significant energy savings as well as cleaner and more efficient production.
SHL’s modular component and equipment strategy means different variations of Molly devices can be assembled and tested using universal equipment with interchangeable fixtures. By reusing much of the same machinery for different projects, emissions from producing and operating individual machinery can be significantly reduced.
At present, all trays used for internal/local transportation are reusable. We also plan to introduce trays made from 100% recycled plastics for all products before 2025. We have also launched an initiative to enable our customers to recycle sub-assembly trays within their facilities, facilitating closed-loop recycling.
We have replaced single-use pallets and totes with reusable options. In the future, these will be made from recycled materials that are also recyclable. We are set to deploy additional measures in 2022, including updating our palletization schemes and harmonizing our shipping and intermediate storage configurations to continuously reduce our environmental footprint.
Sustainability is a global challenge that cannot be tackled alone. We are joining leading organizations and initiatives to elevate our own sustainability while also putting our weight behind the push for change.
